New Players

If you are new to the Ellenton area please speak to our Adult Hockey Director, Stephane before signing up. Stephane can point you in the right direction, let you know how full each league is and if there is room as well as give a detailed idea of the level of each league. He is very knowledgeable about the game, our teams and is on a first name basis with our players.

League Rules 

All USA Hockey Rules must be followed and will be enforced!

All players must have current USA Hockey Membership. USA Hockey Membership expires August 31 so all participants including subs must submit their USA Hockey before their first game of the season.

Regular season Game Format

  1. Ellenton Ice will follow USA Hockey’s Standard of Play and Rules
  2. Must be 18 to play in an Adult Hockey League
  3. Nobody below the age of 18 is allowed on the bench.
  4. Only fully dressed players are allowed on the ice. All others cannot be on the ice.
  5. 2 USA Hockey Certified Refs are scheduled for each game
  6. 1 hour allotted to each game
  7. No players may get on the ice until the Zamboni doors are closed
  8. 3 Periods
  9. 12 minute stop time
  10. 2  minute minor penalties
  11. 30 second time out
  12. Running time if 5 goal differential in the third period only
  13. Zero Tolerance Policy-Verbal abuse to Officials/League Administrator or conduct detrimental to the game will result in league suspension and will be reviewed by League for possible expulsion from Ellenton Ice hockey program.
  14. Excessive penalties – 3 penalties in a game will result in game ejections. Players with excessive penalties will be reviewed by the league director for possible ejection from the league.
  15. All players must have a matching color jersey with a number on the back or they will be asked to leave the ice.
  16. Penalties Minutes –
    • 60 Minutes – 2 point Deduction
    • 80 Minutes – 4 point Deduction
    • 100 Minutes – NO PLAYOFFS AT ALL
  17. Fighting in a game –
    • A game misconduct will be given to a player for fighting, a second fighting penalty will result in an automatic suspension for that player from all Ellenton Ice leagues for the remainder of season or possibly longer.

Regular Season Overtime format

  • No overtime
  • 5 person shootout only
    • Teams must go through their full roster before a player is allowed to shoot again.
    • No subs can participate in shoot out.
    • If a player is in the penalty box, they are not allowed to participate in shoot out.
    • If the game is not resolved at the end of shootout, the game will be a tie.

Playoff Overtime Format

  • 5 Minute run time
  • 3 VS 3
  • Clock will stop during penalties
  • If a penalty is assessed 4 Vs 3
  • If the game is not resolved at the end of overtime, we go to a 5 player shout out, if not resolved after 5, sudden death

Rosters and Stats 

  • All Players must check-in at front desk before start of game
  • No player may be on 2 rosters in the same division or in an upper & lower division
  • To be eligible for Playoffs you must – have current season paid for AND must have participated in 50% of Games
  • Rosters lock after 1st game of season, any player added must register as a free agent and the Hockey Director will add them to roster as they are approved

Substitution Rules

  • All Subs must check-in at front desk and pay sub fee
  • Must be USA Hockey Members and must turn paper version with bar code into reception prior to game
  • Teams can sub up to, the same amount of players the opposing team has that game
    • For example, if  a team has 8 players you can only sub up to 8
    • You will never be allowed to sub above 10 players
  • Team Fee means you can have up to 14 players, roster locked after 1st game – any other player added to roster must pay league fee or Sub fee.
  • All Subs will pay their applicable sub fee at the front desk (receipt must given to score keeper before game or game will be a forfeit)
  • Subs must be approved by both Captain and Adult Hockey Director must be informed text or email, or team forfeits
  • NO subs will be allowed during playoffs

Sub Fees

  • A player that has a current paid season that wants to Sub in a different game must check in at the front desk
  • A player that is not in a league that wants to sub must pay $32.00 sub fee and have a current USA hockey Membership

  • 4 Teams
    • 1 vs 4
    • 2 vs 3
    • Winner of 1 vs 4 plays winner of 2 vs 3
    • Second game will be made up of consolation players
  • 5 Teams
    • 4th and 5th place teams will play an elimination game. Winner will take 4th seed in the Playoffs
    • Playoffs will continue like a 4 team Playoff
  • 6 Teams
      • Week 1
        • 1 vs 4
        • 2 vs 3
        • 5 vs 6 Consolation
      • Week 2
        • Championship Game
        • Winner of 1 vs 4 & 2 vs 3
  • 8 Teams
    • Week 1

Leagues Offered:

D2 League

This league is for players who are just starting out. If you have always wanted to play hockey, but didn’t know how to get started, begin with Larry’s Clinic and then move up to the D League.

D1 League

This is the upper level D League.

C2 League

This is the lower level C league. A mixture of mid to high level of players seeking more competition. Typically players in this league have played travel hockey in their youth and possibly played at a junior or college level.

This is the upper level C League. A mixture of mid to high level players. Typically players in this league may have played in their youth at the travel level.

This upper division is for players 35 years of age or older who are at the A and or B level.

40+ Lower division is for players who are intermediate to lower level players and are 40 years of age or older. Must be 39 by May 7th.

A mixture of mid-high level players 30+ years of age. Typically players in this league may have played competitive travel hockey in their youth.
